Approach

Feeling Overwhelmed?

Juggling a million things? Your schedule, finances, workload, priorities, etc. Adopting some basic rituals and frameworks, with a mix of accountability is a surefire way to ameliorating your situation.

Common symptoms ...

  • Heightened anxiety or feeling "on edge" all the time
  • Feelings of self disappointment
  • Constant procrastination, avoidance and/or escapism
  • Emotionally unstable: The slightest thing can tilt you off your game
  • Strained relationships (romantic and social) since you're less reliable
  • Inability to commit to things or people

Causes

Feeling overwhelmed is a direct symptom of an overabundance of chaos in your life. There are two main issues:

  1. Inability to prioritize
  2. Inability to take action

Inability to prioritize

Without prioritization, EVERYTHING is equally important. But clearly, that's not true. You should probably pay your bills, or hand in your midterm paper before you start organizing your summer trip. Right?

The key to prioritization isn't better organization or a fancy system. It's all about your values and your vision. Here's why: Without the awareness, alignment, and integrity of your values, you won't be able to effectively pit one thing over the other when it matters. You'll always be in a reactionary mode, taking care of whatever is screaming loudest. We call this putting out fires. And in life, there are endless fires. The aim is to consciously choose which fire to put out.

Having a clearly defined values and vision allows you to narrow your view. Effectively creating a "value filter" for the 1,000,000 things you have on your to-do list.

Inability to take action

Perhaps you can prioritize or clearly know what you should be doing. But then ... procrastination sets in. Cementing you to Netflix or TikTok—whatever your escapism vice. Then, the work piles up, and up, and up.

Enough of that though. You know perfectly well what I'm talking about. Nearly everyone struggles with procrastination to some degree.

So what's the solution?

Approach

  1. Articulate your values and an enticing vision. This will serve as your "value filter" for the things you need to get done.
  2. Aggregate the noise. Next, we'll jot down everything weighing on your mind. Every task, pressure, deadline, bill payment, obligation.
  3. Score and arrange. We'll score reach item based on immediate importance, effort, and arrange various dependencies. This will give you plenty of clarity on what should be tackled next, and what can be ignored.
  4. Plan of action. Depending on your list, a more involved strategy may be needed.
  5. Consistent action. And finally, the "fun" part 😉 Getting sh*t done! But don't worry, you're not alone here. I'll be keeping you accountable and helping you get unstuck whenever it happens. We're often our own biggest obstacles.

How you'll feel

Having a grip on the noise means you're able to attend to what truly matters: Meaningful pursuits, relationships, personal projects, you name it!

  • Peace and tranquility of mind
  • Improved romantic and social relationships since you'll be much more "present"
  • Confidence in yourself and your abilities
  • Wake up each morning ready to take on your day
